I got an interesting E Mail from a friend of mine in Germany which prompted me to start this thread. It seems that a stash of insignia was recently found in an old factory over there. Most of it was trashed because of moth damage. A number of Feuerwehr sleeve patches survived well as 8 Ski-Jager patches. I’ll discuss these patches a little further down in the thread. As many of you may be aware the patch was authorized for wear by members of the 1st Ski Jager Brigade (later division)on 21 August 1944.There is no evidence photographic or otherwise to suggest that the patch was issued or worn. However its generally accepted among the collecting community that the patch was produced. Now the question is what did the patch look like and were there variations. Like most of us I have to rely on available reference materials and hope the researchers did their homework. So I will reference several books and let the readers draw their own conclusions.
In Brian Davis’ book on German uniforms he describes a patch with cooper brown skis.He doesn’t have a picture of the patch, only a line drawing. I posted a thread showing a patch almost identical to the one Mr. Davis describes:

In Vol. 2 of Uniforms and Traditions of the German Army 1933-45 by Angolia and Schlicht the authors state that 2 variations of the patch were produced:
Machine woven with Grey green backing
Machine Embroidered with Field Grey basic cloth.
Here is a picture of the machine woven patch that is generally accepted as real among the collecting community.
