I have a new found affection for Luft tabs/boards and flight engineer in particular. So far I have not found much info on the job they actually did. Can anyone point me to a thread, website, or book with an indepth look at Luft ranks? I already have Third Reich cloth Insignia and Badges & Insignia of the TR. Of all the theads I have found a lot of guys think they were an administrative classification. That seems odd considering their title. I am creating a word doc with all the rank tabs and titles. Not sure if I can post word docs here but I will try.
Gary, I'm sure you have other engineer tabs/boards, can you post all together? Pretty please with a cherry on top? Anyone else? If someone has flt eng tabs they would like to get rid of please PM me.
hi-revr, I'm glad somebody is finally actually interested in flight engineers. One of my grandfathers was an ordinary Fliegeringenieur (lowest rank). He unfortunately passed away at the age of 86 so we can't ask him anymore. I still have his photo albums so in case you are interested in some scans for your research, feel free to send me a message.
Here is a picture of him from the Crimean "front" (before you ask, yes it's colorized).
Here is -- as requested by member "New kid" another picture of him in his Fliegerbluse. In most photos, he is wearing his Fliegerbluse. In some, he wears the reed green four pocket tunic similar to the tropical jacket (which he also wore in Yugoslavia).
