Aside from the comments already mentioned about this tunic, I believe it is a fake. The attachment of the breast eagle and collar tabs appear to be recently applied. These items will lay flat and appear to "melt" into the tunic fabric if in fact they were applied 60 plus years ago.

I do not believe this tunic to be an original period production. The material, all of it, is simply too pristine to be 60 plus years old. The dark green collar material as well as the interior, with its bright white sleeve linings do not give me the warm and fuzzes.

Also, it is apparent the stitching near the shoulder boards was removed and then poorly sewn back together. If in fact this was period done, why would the tailor not simply sewn in the new boards when he had the stitching apart? And then to add slip-on boards, crappy ones at that, makes little sense to me.

No, Don, no, Not, Not that TUNIC!!!

Need better pictures to know but at this point, like others I am not real convinced yet the jacket itself is original.

Appears to me, the tunic that is, to be of the type/quality the Japanese are turning out, if anyone likes, I can provide the website, some of their stuff is pretty amazing concerning the amount of smaller parts and details they are reproducing these days..they are making quite literally everything under the "rising" sun.

The tunic itself is absolutly original. Yes in deed, the collartabs and the shoulderboards are used and looking not compatible in relation to the tunic. I will make better photos tomorrow. Regards Martin

All the buttons look like they have not been painted and are silver finish. Is that correct?

Yes correct. All the buttons have silverfinish and have not been painted- I`m knowing- unusually for this kind of tunics. Regards Martin

IMO the flat male neck closure hardware in pic 11/12 is standard on just about every non high end repro tunic I've seen, sorry, but that alone would be sufficient for me to believe its not an original piece.
