    Questions about Officer candidate

    Hi all,

It's the first time I write here, so I want to salute everyone. In advance sorry for my english, i'm French ... I 've some questions and I think I'll get some accurate responses here...

Concerning the Luftwaffe (during WW2) I know there is many ranks in the course of officer candidate:

    - Fahnenjunker-Gefreiter
    - Fahnenjunker-Unteroffizier
    - Fähnrich
    - Oberfähnrich

_Fahnenjunker-Gefreiter consist of a Gefreiter shoulderboard with a additionnal loop of tress at it's base.

    _Fahnenjunker-Unteroffizier consist of a Uffz shoulderboard (+tress).

    1) _But for Fähnrich, does it consist of Unterfeldwebel shoulderboard (+tress) or Feldwebel (+tress) ?

2)_For Oberfähnrich, is it Oberfeldwebel (shoulderboard+ 2 stars +tress) or just like Oberfeldwebel (shoulderboard + 2 stars) ?

    3) Is there a difference in the ranks insignias between the men who join the Luftwaffe as officers candidates and those who were NCO prior to becoming officer candidate ?

I've seen different loop of tress:

    from GMIC's forum

this one seems to be Fähnrich (LW)

    from Whermacht-awards' site

this one seems to be also Fähnrich...

4)_What is the meaning of those 2 different loop of tress ?

in advance thanks for your help

Same rank, the LW used different straps to indicate the Fähnrich

      ok thanks.

In my books of JG300's history, there are several photos showing pilots ranked as Fahnenjunker-Oberfeldwebel...

Whats the difference between an Oberfähnrich and a Fahnenjunker-Oberfeldwebel about theirs insignias and officer's training ?

        In short: no difference

often an Oberfähnrich is refferred to as Fahnenjunker-Oberfeldwebel and a Fähnrich as Fahnenjunker-Feldwebel, in both the Heer and the Luftwaffe.

see here for details regarding the training:
