    Information regarding shoulder board

    Hi,

I have just obtained this artillery officers jacket and would like to know a little about where this officer may have served. The shoulder board has crossed cannons meaning "Ordnance" with No. 7. What would have been the function of this officer and would he have served in a front line combat unit? I note that their are medal/badge holes on the left chest pocket and the uniform does have the EK2 and Russia Medal sewn onto the jacket. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

The Arabic number should not be on that board. Having said that, we all know (or should know) the regulations were not always followed. So, there are two possibilities:

    A) Someone who didn't know what they were doing added the number post-war.

    or

    B) The officer was assigned to artillery battery #7, was extremely proud of his unit, and added the regiment number against the regulations.

Does it look like the Arabic number has been on the board for 63+ years?

Thanks for that info. Cant say about the number being added as the jacket is still in the post. I have found out that 7 Art Reg was attached to 7th Inf Division. Can anyone tell me what an "ordnance" officer actually did. When I see the word ordnance I automatically think of ammunition but I have found out that an Ordnance section existed which in fact tested and trialled new weapons etc. This would mean (I assume) that any one attached to an ordnance section would not see combat service and yet this jacket has, apart from the two button hole ribbons, holes where two badges/medals have been attached. At a guess I would say maybe EK1 in the centre and wound badge to the side. Only a guess. I have never owned a uniform jacket before and am keen to try and establish some history behind it. Many thanks for any help

Nice tunic. Did you obtain it from Peter v.L (Stockholm)?
I've seen images of Russian Wehrmacht troops with such a combination.

Yes I did. Its the first tunic I have ever purchased hence my questions regarding the original wearer. I have been collecting badges/medals for over 10 years but very new to this area of collecting.
