Schwarze manner question!

Hi there!

A doubt that comin' throught severl time in my mind...

Why the lW mechanics are always called 'Schwartze manner', if the suits they wore (those that I have had the chance of handle) was blue??
Maybe because, after some hours of hard working they was covered by black grease, oil and gasoline?

Most of the overalls were black, but there were also blue ones. Sidecaps also were black.

The East German Air Force adopted the scheme: Blue clothing for the flyers, black clothing for the technicians.

Yes, I know the 'vox populi', but I have never handled one of that. All teh siut I have had the chance of got in my hands, was blue... Did you have a photo (not a period one) of one of that?
