Andi,
if he's going to be a panzer soldier in Africa, he definitely needs a good tan. I'd be inclined to not use the gaiters as most troops wearing trousers would wear them loose or just tucked into socks. Some would have the cuffs of their trousers elasticated or some would just add ties.
I've attached a well known afrikakorps picture which displays 3 different examples of how trousers were worn; loose, elasticated and tucked into socks.

Did I mention that the you have a very good set up. Well, you have.

There was a salmon waffenfarbe too... Geologist. The straps seem a little dark to be Rosa.
