    tunic sizes questions?

what was the range of sizes for a "standard issue" german WWII tunic?
what was the most common sized tunic(s)?
how do these sizes relate to U.S sizes today? (perhaps reference a chart)

    thanks for your help

    Doug,

Your question is very broad. German uniforms didn't come in Large, Medium or small sizes per-say.

In a nut shell, I would say (IMHO) that small (chest) size would range from 88-92 CM, medium would be 94-100 CM and large would be 102 and larger.

Also, the sleeve length would also have to be taken in to account in terms of short, medium and tall.

Concerning the german Feldblusen, the only size range introduced from 1943 in order to make easier the issue of garments was the height range stamped above or close to the size markings, ex : 170 176 for a tunic that should fit a soldier whose height is between 170 and 176 cm....180 188...etc....

The tunic length was expressed as the back waist length and the overall length. There is a standard tailoring chart that shows back waist length vs. overall height of the man, and another that shows scye depth (the height of the armhole when worn) as a function of chest circumference. Overall jacket length was shorter than a sack coat but longer than a waist-length coat.

Sleeve length is generally related to back waist length and overall height for standard-sized clothing, as is the neck size.

So, yes, the Germans made the tunics in standard sizes, but they were not, as stated in a previous post, "small", "medium", and "large."

it seems that there were many different variations and no "off the rack"......but.......if a were to dress a 1940's german soldat in a modern cut jacket today.......what size would he wear?........38R.....40L?

          thanks for your help again
