I agree with 'X's' assessment of the replaced shoulder boards on this waffenrock. Not only are they the wrong style of boards but they have been very badly sewn into the shoulder seam.

Too bad, it looks like it was a beautiful example before someone started to play with it.

On a positive note, the boards themselves are very nice. I wouldn't mind having them in my collection.

For sake of discussion and trying to determine authenticity, it's a bit difficult to tell from the pics, but it appears the collar and cuff tabs have been reattached as well.

Take a close look at outer edges of the cuff tabs and you can see the pull marks caused by the thread. No wartime German tailor would have done this IMO. The thread securing the collar tabs looks loose and sloppy as well. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

In addition, the color and wear of the cuff and collar tabs is inconsistent with the color and wear of the piping that surrounds them. I believe this was an enlisted tunic someone upgraded.

In my opinion, the collar tabs show the "blind stitching" that Mark mentions. I can't tell for sure on the cuff bars. The boards have the exterior stitching at the base, which for me is a real problem. You simply NEVER see that on period Waffenrocks.

Vince, I know this is not what you want to hear, but the guys on this forum have a lot of experience.

I agree again, I have never seen boards sewn in like that on family and vet bring back pieces etc. It is possible but in my opinion very unlikely sorry.

Both Rocks’ the poster has are completely rebuilt IMHO. All original parts but good untouched rocks are an easy item to find so value would be seriously reduced.
