I remember that I have ask to myself too the same question... Any reason for me ... Or maybe the same reason for the lack of O2 mask leather loops on the late war leather suits and so on...
We can say that maybe in origin was thinking to dress only by bomber crew and for all the more-than-one- seat plane ... where the survival equipment doesn't dress on the man (as the fighters needed), but sealed in the plane... but they was fit in the early of the war by all the aircrew, without distinctions.... who knows?
Good question, Jos, and I will look at mine this weekend and confirm that none have it.
Is it because fighter aircrew generally did not wear the one-piece flightsuit? The one-piece was usually worn by crews of larger aircraft which would have had their dingys and survival equipment in separate containers within the aircraft, instead of carried by each crew member individually. So maybe the "one-piece" guys just didn't need to carry it?
