German mantel question

I have not been able to find this mantel in my ref books. Can anyone tell me more about it--age, usage etc? Thanks in advance, Mike

Mike, I thought the straight flaps were postwar Swedish greatcoats. But, those markings....

I think this is an original Heer coat that has been very extensively reworked for civilian wear after the war. You can just make out the original button holes which have been closed and a new button closure created.

I really don't have a clue. My friend in Germany said it was WWII but I could not find it in my books. As far as the button repairs-the stiching is only on the outside of the coat and not on the inside. I would think to would be the same inside if button holes had been closed. Mike

I'm with Chris on this one. It is a military to civilian re-work. I can see the old button holes. New wool has been added at the soulders and the pockets have been retailored to look more civil. Also, I think the sleeves and the lapel lining have new wool as well.
