This looks very much like those I saw for sale in Bavaria, in the 1990s. They were popular on the caps, lederhosen straps, and jackets of the mountain hikers. I should have bought one, but I bought a edelweiss hat pin, which I wear. I always regretted not buying one for my jacket.

Whatever it is, it is very attractive and I like it very much.

Hello belt666, I have a mountain GJ jacket in my collection and this has signs if I remember correctly up on the right arm of the original stitch made in the same style of your patch.
Can you give me the measures please, I would say no more than 2 or 3 cm.
I will post pictures of my coat this evening to show you.
Will be an interesting thread, is the first time I see this patch and I'd like to know more.
Please if you want sell it let me know, I'd like to restore my GJ coat.

Thanks for your opinion Luka. It measures are height 10 cm and page have 6 cm. I dont think its military my teory can be SA od SA wehrmanschaft abzeichen. Our wermanschaft (sud steiermark) have some features we no other SA wehrmanschaft and sa units on other part of 3 reich and to yet not sufficiently studied area.

I will post pics of this as possible.
              Thanks again.

                Hello,

It may belong to the Untersteiermark Selbstschutz, there are some picture on Munoz's "Hitler Green Army": they show some members of such units using a patch similar to that one on their's M43 caps.

                Best Regards

Hello T.K: thanks for replay. I think you are in right way and know my area. Can you post foto from book to see it? I have many photos from that unit but from start of war to maybi 43 and think that patch is late war. Pleas for photo from this Munoz book and will see. I am from Maribor (german Marburg) and there was on ww2 point of this organization.

That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw these! (picture credit Anthony Munoz!)
Agreed, could very well be a cap edelweiss for a Selbstschutz or wehrschaft unit (operated in Steiermark and similar home defence units were also raised in Slovenia )!!
Eventhough the shape is close, its more diamond shaped (not rhomboid shape) and more importantly it lacks the edelweiss stem...
So a variation insignia perhaps? or not one of these after all?

Thanks for these informations Nick, the badge you have showed in this picture could be the one was stitched on the GJ coat I have in my collection.
I have never seen one in my life.

Thanks for photo. I know this patch from caps but they are smaler and with metal edelweiss.
I think that the debate goes in the right direction. I think can be from this formation from photo but I need some late war photo of left arm because can be my patch from there. Are in this book Munoz more photos of Styria wehrmann?
If looking styl of SA bergabz and this can see identical point . I know its dificult because info and photos about this formation is rare here too and still loking for original photos of styria wehrmann with helmet .
