I've seen Luft coats with provisions for a button-in hood but not Heer coats. Is this unusual?

Not anusual, it was used. You can see a picture of it in wear on Brian L.Davis book. Anyway it is not common to find one with the hood still in place.

There was once a discussion about a wachmantel in a german forum, said to be SS but with fake insignia, typical luftwaffe construction, with exactly the wool and button colour as the example pictured here.

The discussion hat no clear outcome, but several people pointed out that this rather bright brown colour appears if you treat luftwaffe-blue wool with a decolourization treatment or bleach (I dont remember exactly). That would explain the typical luftwaffe hood and the dark buttons.

I would like to point out that I do not want to malign about anyones items.

                        hm

                          Hello
The coat presented here is 100% original , made with the late M44 brown wool , the buttons color is the typical late war paint on all buttons ( which were supposed to be the same for all branches) . This was definitely never bleached .
I have the same one in brown color with a goldish silk lining , no hood however .
These are actually hard to find .
The late war LW coat with the hood , do not have that large of a collar to begin with , it is a little smaller than his WH counterpart .
                          Regards
                          P-Y
