    Artillery Shoulder Boards/Wehrkreis??

    Hi,

I recently obtained these Heer Artillery Leutnant shoulder boards but was wondering if the Wehrkries/"W" cyphers were original to the board. I did not think the Wehrkries cyphers were authorized for Artilley...I thought they were for district identification on recruting boards.

    Attached scan. Any assistance ppreciated.

Are the boards orange red or definite artillery? After 1939 as far as I know they wore white piping.

From what i understood, recruiting was initially orange (see left of pic), then changed to white (see middle pic).
However the far right board is on a waffenrock on a dealers site, so i am unsure what these other colours are for. I presume if cavalry is found, then why not artillery?
      Maybe someone can explain these?

Supplementry officers also wore an orange red but the piping on the boards looks more red to me.

          Hi,

Thanks for the comments. The boards are red IMO. I have an oranged piped Heer visor as well as Orange waffenfarbe Luftwaffe tabs and the ones pictured are no where near those colors.

From the underside the boards appear to have had a pip attached to them at one time (there are remnants of a single hole, which are now mostly covered by the prongs of the "W").

I was just wondering if these were someone's add ons or was there a reason for the Wehrkreis to be on Artillery boards (or like the signal/cavalry straps pictured in the above respone).
