M40 GreatCoat Question?

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a Reproduction (Sturm) M40 Greatcoat for living history.

I will paint the main buttons on the front and the two at the back with field grey oil model paint. The collar buttons and the skirt buttons I want to replace, to the 4 hole pressed paper buttons. Is it O.K to put on them on an M40 Greatcoat? Shall I buy some original black bakelite ones?

You are buying a wool/polyester blend greatcoat with button holes that are much too small and you want to replace the never-visible buttons under the collar? I would just stick with the plastic buttons that it comes with. I think the plastic buttons might be more appropriate than replacing them with paper buttons, all the greatcoats I own use horn, plastic, or glass buttons.
