    collar binde

Hello, does anyone have any knowledge about tunic collar binde? I have heard some of them being made of celluiod, linen, cotton, rayon or satin. I have only seen photographs but never one in person. I have two repro tunic's manfactured by a company in Germany called Janke. I would like to purchase an origional collar liner so I could have it copied by a tailor for my tunic's. Also would like to know how they were attached to the collar. I would appreciate any suggestion's on this subject. Thank's Scott H

Scott, contact Eric Grigsby at Egrigsby44@aol.com. He has original rayon/silk collar binds for sale. If he has one, get the white piped one. These are getting quite rare. You'll find that you can probably buy one for what it will cost you to have them made.

There are also reproductions of these available. I think that Lost Battalions is already making them. If not, try 1944 Militaria.

      Scott:
I have two kinds of collar binde in my collection. One on a parade waffenrock that is like a very stiff cotton - all white front and back - and it is attached by holes that receive the metal collapsable clips built in to the waffenrock collar.

The second kind - and I see relatively many of these - is dark green and white cotton and typically used on the field/combat type tunic. In this case the white side goes against the skin, the green against the tunic and the construction is double layered/folded over. The back side has button holes that receive the buttons typically sewn in to the inside of the field tunic collar...I think there are four.

      Hope this helps.

Thank you for your input. I am currently trying to secure an origional one fashioned from silk. Then I would like to have a tailor make me an exact copy. Scott
