    volkssturm cape?

Years ago i acquired this cape along with two German military visor caps and two tunics. The latter four are long since traded, but the cape remains. The uniform items came from immediate postwar Berlin, the US soldier sent back a round, tall crate of various souvenirs, of which there were many then in Berlin.
I have always assumed it was Volkssturm, but for many reasons the varieties of uniforms in 45 Berlin was exceptionally high. If anyone has another opinion on this, id be interested.
    thanks, robert p sowada

      Hello,

I must admit that I am not familiar with this garment. Nevertheless I will try to give my modest opinion on it.
The wool appears to be from early or even pre-war manufacture-judging by the quality and the colour- The collar closure flap and the used buttons, amongst with the style and cut, don't seem standard to me.

I can't link this to any organisation, as it might as well have been produced by citizens with leftovers just after the war. I also have my doubts about it that there where special "Volkssturm" uniforms, as they barely got equiped and trained. It seems to me that these units were just rushed into combat with minimal experience, with not much more than a side arm and their civilian clothes.

      Just my modest opinion.
Hope to see some contributions on this thread, as it is certainly is a piece worth studying.

      Kind regards,
      Vincent S.

I strongly suspect it may be Swiss military production.

I agree based on the tag and wool color! Probably Swiss!

                thanks for the input

i appreciate the input and will have to do some more research. the original source had only german wwii uniform parts along with this, but strange things occur over the years. lothar hartung, when trying to acquire a blood order 35 years ago or so, literally went through the list of recipients, contacted those alive, and finally found one with the medal. unhappily, it was a repro. the owner had loaned it out a few years before and got back a copy.
could someone send some pics of period swiss military clothing tags? the only similiar item i have is a pair of heavy wool pants i used for ice fishing, and neither the color or tag match. thanks again, bob sowada
