    Austrian summer tunic Heer reissue

Hi pals, postal service was kind today. Just received this Austrian drillich tunic, which was reissued to Heer sometime during the middle of the war.

Bottle green collar has been added professionally by a tailor. The allgemeine collar tabs are hand sewn with whitish thread along with inside belthook, and minor repairs. BeVo EM breast eagle on light green backing machine sewn, but has been torn off.

    Extra Fein A.d. B L, Assmann, BSS, A&S41 buttons.

My question would be to restore it with a similar breast eagle, or to better leave it as it is? (myself can't decide)

    Opinions are welcome!

    Christian,
If you can find a matching breasteagle with matching wear I would certainly restore it. But that is my opinion.

Attached you see the breasteagle I restored on my 1935 Bavarian Police tunic.
Luckily for me the original and matching eagle was still in the breastpocket.

You have such a clear imprint of where the eagle was I think it would be a shame to not restore it. BUT my advise is to make photo's before and after so you can allways show how the tunic was when found.

I would definatly restore the tunic, but i would overhand the job to a professional. This has to be done in a perfect way

Well, the vote is unanimous, restore it. A lot of breast eagles were removed after the was in the de-nazifying process. So, replaced birds are a fact of life for tunic collectors and it really doesn't negatively effect the value of the tunic.

I agree with Ostmark that unless you are an experienced tailor, hand it over to a professional.

          Thanks mates!

I will definately look for an eagle.

The interesting thing is, that the remains of the eagle are still there with the different colour threads too. So it wasn't worn afterwards for sure.

              Revive

I would like to revive this thread. I'm thinking about selling this tunic to cover some expenses. What do you think, what would be a fair price to ask for it?

              Thanks for all opinions.

To me that is almost twice what it is worth the way it is.

I have seen them go for 400-500 euros with insignias.
Love those summer tunics made from caprtured material or simply converted to WH use...
