    Pip sizes

I have seen several reproduction vendors selling rank pips in 3 different sizes, 10mm, 12mm, and 15mm. Which branch/ranks wore which sizes on their rank insignia, or is this just to swindle reenactors out of their money?

You can find different sizes of pips on for example SS collar tabs. There are even more sizes than those you mention.

So essentially, there was no rule to which ranks used which size of pips?

As my wife says, size doesn't matter. Nearly, any size will do when it came to shoulder strap/board rank. It was left to the soldier to determin what size would look the best. Now the color did matter. Silver/grey for NCO, Bronz for Officer and gold for General officer. But even then, this wasn't observed by the soldiers.

Do yourself a favor and buy the Angolia reference books....it's all in there - for pips or whatever other regulations you'll need - if you're truly serious about this hobby, whether collecting originals or reenacating..
