Cap Edelweisses

A couple of months ago I got this Edelweiss from a Norwegian who served under 6. Gebirgsdivision Nord
I did not put much thoughts into it, untill someone wanted to do a trade on a Luftwaffe side cap. One of the things I got was an Edelweiss.



I have to admit that I didn't think about it then, but now sitting in the cabine up in the mountains going throug some of the things - I'm 100 % sure that this is a completly fake one. First some images of the one from Division Nord.

Then the big question

How many different producers of Edelweisses was it? I belive this insignia originated in Austria. How many different variations of it is it possible to find?
It would have been the benefit for everyone if there was some kind of reference. Does it excist? Books?

The Bundeswehr still use these bent stem ones. But they are not fakes.

There were a few examples. Mainly early aluminum, and later zink. Early ones had central hole for fixing the golden coloured pistil, as on yours. The zink ones usually have two flat holes. And of course different makers marks.

I hope our Italian forum member mate doesn't mind if I post his photo here, but it describes well the difference.

clearifying things for me. A wrong expression then - fake - but fake as a WWII motel will be correct.

I was always under the impression that original WWII pieces had 5 holes, and most repros only had 4 holes.
