A nice set of Heer straps. I have seen tresse used from different organizations on different boards.

Great pair of straps. Just the older style WR tresse used. Looks like straps were period field upgraded with what tresse was available or owner may have been transfered from LW to a ground unit in regular army and wanted to keep some of his original identity. Never know about some of these things but a nice set any way you look at it. Dirk

Agree with Dirk that the straps were originially issued as Unteroffizier and were at some time promoted to Feldwebel.

It isn't uncommon to find odd tresse on straps. Have a pair of Luft. Oberfeldwebel straps with both Heer and Luft tresse mixed on them.

However, what is unusual is the promotion, which I assume was done at a later date, is also of Luft. tresse. What are the odds of that in an army unit? For me, this implies the straps could actually be Luftwaffe.

Thanks guys for your input! So if they're actually LW, then the fieldgray wool with yellow piping would indicate what?

If these were in my collection I'd put them in the Army 'section'. For my money they are Army Cavalry straps. It is impossible to tell when this guy was promoted from Unteroffizier to Feldwebel but almost certainly after the straps were manufactured. The use Luftwaffe tress for the upgrade really doesn't concern me. It's not hard to imagine a tailor using the same style of tress to upgrade the rank using the original style tress.

Anything is possible with these boards. The possiblities are tantalizing! I bet that they would look awesome on a LW Field Division tunic(Light weight four pocket or converted Heer Issue tunic), for recon!

I dont think that the boards were originally Uffz. Look at the area where they patched the tresse. Perhaps because the length of tresse was too short during the time of application? I also like how the Unterfeldwebel area is a different lot of tresse(and LW at that!).

This is one great set of boards that definitely has a story, whether they belonged to a member of the Heer or Luftwaffe.
