Hi,
chaps I need some advice/information on a M44 Field Blouse, the last type made similar to the British Battledress. One of the few Militaria Dealers here in Australia has one going to 'Auction' in a few days. They have estimated the price at $1500, with these auctions the item sells for at least 80% of their estimated value, if you bid less and win your bid is adjusted to 80% of the price they put on it. This tunic will sell then for at least $1200AU or more.I have examined in hand and no obvious red flags. What worries me is the wool used this is from actual description "A scarce example in the late war coarse earth brown 'Russia Yarn' Six button front, single unpleated pocket to the left hand side...." They claim to cut back on materials only one pocket was put on these coats at times, an " economy measure" Tunic has partial rayon lining, piping on collar tabs, shoulder boards for panzer grenadiers, - apple green. No stamps remain inside the tunic, washed out. Was there a wool used by the Germans late war made fom combining captured Russian wool with german resulting in a brown colored wool. The eagle is not the late war type one would expect rather a mid war type this could be reapplied so I am not overly concerned. Only the wool and missing pocket worry me. Based on the information given should I take a risk. Ive seen a couple of these M44 tunics in Sydney recently fake ones but the quality was such they were obvious to the serious collector.
cheers Robert
