    Navy Patch

Can you please clarify what this navy patch is?
Some said it was a Germany WW2 - Rate is Oberbootsmannsmaat - Botswains Mate 2nd Class. Some said it was a East German Navy patch...
    Thank you for your help.

Recommend posting this on the uniforms and insignia forum. However, this style patch was used after WWII by both West and East Germany I think. They can be tricky, whereas the metal patches were only WWII.

Anyway, I think the best sources for these rating patches are on the other forum.

This is an oberbootsmannsmaat's sleave patch for the navy blue wool midi, the metal versions were for wear on the navy blue wool peacoats. The cheveron below the anchor denotes ober. Post war anchors are crude looking in my opinion. The bottom of the anchor is just a V and there are are no flutes on the tips of anchor arms. Go here and look at page 51g http://hometown.aol.com/greatpolarbe...ingmanual.html
