This is an M41 that has been upgraded with the bottle green collar and earlier insignia to look like a M36. Usually there would be a prewar white eagle on dark green sewn there but since it was modified from factory insignia there is really no way to know when the eagle was added and Waffenrock eagles were used occasionally.

It could even be an M-42, the pleats sort of look uneven like they may have been added?

Not OK. Definitely a made up one. I've studied pics of the GD and personally it's very rare to see those late war (1944 ) cufftitles. And when you see them they're always on the M43 tunic.
To me also the pleats look uneven. So, yes I agree with jhodgson, looks like an M42 that got that M36 look.
So, I'm sorry but it's definitely a GD made one.

It should have this cufftitle. This is a correct one at the correct hight.

What is the correct height? Are GD cufftitles ever sewn into the coat sleeve seam?

Regulations stated 15 CM above the sleeve edge on EM Service tunics and 1 CM above the open cuffs of a greatcoat but these were not always followed.

6" from the sleave edge would put my C/T on the sleave opening, mine sits 10mm above where the sleave opening finish's

The distance was not always exact as I mentioned and becuase of the cuff slit yours would them be "corrct" where it is. The position of the CT is not really the problem.

It looks like the tunic has a rayon lining, which for me dates it the 2nd half of 1942 or later. Inside photos of the stamps would help here as well.

Given that the tunic was probably made in late 42 or even 1943, would it not be very possible that it was issued and set up with the later cufftitle?

The tunic is clearly modified as a walking out/best wear type uniform and everything about it seems consistant with that purpose.

so what are the differances between an m36 and an m42 tunic besides the internal belt suspenders and the green colar and the pleated pockets?

Weitze has a few "correct" late type CT. Go and take a look at them.

There are different terms used by collectors for different styles of tunics. The M36 (there are earlier types as well) has a darkgreen collar and a 5 button front with pleated pockets. The M40 has a 5 button front, pleated pockets and a wool color collar the same as the tunic body as do all later tunics. The M41 is the same but has 6 buttons, the m42 does not have pleated pockets but has pockets with tipped points like the earlier tunics, the M43 has straight cut pocket flaps. There is variation within the M42s etc. but generally this is what the variations are for the Wartime four pocket tunics. Pick up the book "Feldbluse" written by WA members.
