    Question on GD NCO boards

Should GD shoulder boards for an NCO have metal cyphers or be embroidered like the EM version?

I have come across embroidered NCO boards but always passed on them under the belief they should have metal cyphers instead. Any commentary would be welcome.

    GD boards

It is possible to have the embroidered GD, if the individual were promoted, the NCO tresse might have just been added to the existing boards. I have an Infantry Lehr board to a Feldwebel that still retains the chainstiched Lehr. I also saw once a parade dress tunic to a NCO in a Reconn unit that had pink piped boards and the metal A device. But when you peeked under it the chainstiched A was still there, it was never picked out.

Up to the grade of Unterfeldwebel they were supposed to be embroidered, from Feldwebel and up they were supposed to be silver colored metal.

(BTW: if this stuff is interesting to you it might not be a bad idea to purchase a couple of good references, there are a couple of good ones on Army uniforms out there and will be a nice specifically GD reference by Scott Pritchett coming out around Christmastime)
