A great tunic with a killer soldbuch, a true warrior. To bad he did not survive the acopolypse in-45.

    A geb.jag. with a DKIG is great.

    Kind regards

Thanks Jotuntroll. Who says he was KIA? and not POW.

This is such a beautiful uniform. I really like the little stitch embroidery you just posted a photo of

It would usually say he died in a Kriegsgefangenenlager (POW Camp) if he were a POW. This isn't always the case though, so who knows...

I didn't see any photo of him in that thread. I'd love to see one!!!

Ah, its a shame that they cropped and blackened the photo. It would have been really interesting to compare the photo to the uniform. But man, that photo looks great! The resolution is amazing!!

On the German wargraves site there is a man with this name listed as a Lt. that was killed in Poland near Danzig on March 20th or 21 1945 roughly where the 13th GJ was.

The blacking out of insignia was also often done by veterans and families after the War. Many times the only photo that survived of someone killed was the Soldbuch photo and it was removed like this to have a drawing done or a photo made not in uniform. IMO this is what happened because the cover retains the swastika. It looks like there are listings in the soldbuch after the date though. What is the date of Birth in the front?

I don't understand, if he was killed in Poland in march, why is this in his soldbuch then?

Its possible he could have been missing in Poland in March, or thought to have been dead. Then no one kept account of his death in his Gulag, and the Russians never released any information. This could be what happend...

BTW, out of curiousity, who would record deaths in POW camps?
