Thanks Guys, the pants are '44 pattern and I believe are'44 dated.My theory on the flaps is that it was an conscious attempt to copy the brittish battle dress jacket. This is the only reason I could see them re-introducing a style point and or a step in the manufacturing process. I see this as on of the distinguishing features between M45s and variant 44s along with lining, sleeve adjustment ect.
