    G.m.b.H. ???

    Hi,

I know this stands for "Gesellschaft Mit Beschraenkter Haftung". I understand this is a post WW2 marking. Could someone please clarify/confirm this for me?? If not, what types of pre-45 items (uniforms/insignia) has this abbreviation been founf on?

    Thanks in advance
    Mike K
    Regards

This designation was used at least from the 19th century, so having it in or on an item does not mean it's post war. It means the same as 'Ltd.' (Limited) in the UK, so it can apply to any company with limited liability. As such, it can appear on anything--it just depends on the way the company was set up legally.

      Hi Eric,

      Thanks for the repsonse.

So does anyone know of, or have any images of, a Third Reich uniform item with GmbH as part of the marking?

      Regards

        Hi Mike,

A friend of mine just picked up a piped Panzer wrap and Overseas cap and sent me some pics. The uniform looks good. It was manufactured by Peek and Cloppenburg, which I think Ive seen before. This particular stamp also says GMBH which I haven't seen on any production uniform. Anyway heres the picture.Any comments would be welcome.Regards Jim

I disagree that it is a post war abbreviation.

It can be difficult to date items from various abbreviations used in the manufacturing process.I've seen items labelled DRP or DRGM dated as late as 1947. Heres a Scho-KA-Kola can. On the back its marked DRZW (German reich Trademark) as well as GMBH. Regards Jim
