    Flat tipped Boards

These boards are on an Austrian-tailor made tunic probably dating to right after the Anschluss. Has anyone seen tailor made insignia like this? I am sure it is original, also I was wondering if Bundesheer straps were flat tipped like this and that was the reason.

    Hi John,

Yes - they did use these flat straps.

Interestingly the Austrian Bundesheer adopted the same pattern rank insignia as the Reichswehr did in 1919-21.

Austrian parliamentarians attended the Constitutional Convention in Weimar, and Austria was overwhelmingly in favor of an Anschluss in 1919, but this was forbidden by the Allied powers in both the Versailles, and Saint Germain treaties.

From about 1920 - 1930 the Austrian Army wore German style uniforms and rank insignia. This changed when the Austrian Nationalist and Clerical Party leader Dolfuss came to power. After, which traditional Austria insignia was reintroduced.

    MfG,

    Diane
