Unit ID from belt

Can any tell me about the unit marking on a belt I recently purchased. It is marked " 1./J.R 44 I "

Where abouts were they located and any other history on this unit.

Thanks much ... I have translated the Lexicon verbiage and there is some interesting history. The units of this Infantry Division set up in the provinces of Sensburg and Bartenstein, now Poland, where they suffered massive losses. The particular unit on my belt eventually was replaced, relocated, and renamed. It's amazing that with the loss of so many soldiers that these items still survive to tell a story.
