    3rd Pattern Tropical Jacket

    Hi All

Were 3rd pattern Tropical Jackets worn in North Africa and does anybody know of any pictures?

All my books show 1st and 2nd styles only.

    Cheers

I think that Lenny's 2nd link should really help to answer your question. Ralph Heinz gives a very good insight into the 3rd pattern tropical tunics as well as a photograph of a POW from Tunisia wearing one. There is also a very interesting photo in a Histoire and Collections book titled "Tiger I on the Western Front" which shows officers from Pz Abteilung 501 prior to departure for Tunisia in late 1942. One of these officers is wearing what appears to be a 3rd pattern tunic but there has been quite a bit of debate over whether this is a issue or private purchase piece. I've been searching for the thread which discusses this one and will provide a link if I find it. I have no doubts that these tunics were used in Tunisia but only in very limited numbers, as was the 2nd pattern.

P.S. I found a copy of the picture so have attached it.
