Seriously though, if you don't mind telling us. How much did you pay for this SS Nazi patch? if you really feel bad about it then feel free to keep quite about it. If it was under <$100 don't even sweat it. Just keep this little reminder of how it sucks to get burnt. If it makes you feel better, I once bought a DD M40 police helmet off ebay for $525 + 50 S&H. Only the shell is real... which I think is real anyways. Now I am trying to sell it honestly and I doubt I will get $200... it really makes me feel bad even to this day. But the power to make a bid overwelmed my common sence.

If you did spend big bucks $100> maybe it is worth it to try and get back some of your money. Lets hope it was under $100, that way maybe we can crack a few more jokes.

I'm just asking for more abuse-

I paid (I think) $80.00 for the thing.(it was between 75 and 85 for sure)....
It was last year and it's taken me this long to find a (cheap) way to verify what in my heart I figured anyway.

There was some poor guy who bought one of those Waffen ss death head rings
from the SOB for a couple hundred bucks. That is what I couldn't get outa my head for months. I could'a sworn(whether I remember correctly or not) I read in a book how there was only15 or 20 or so of those known in the world.
That's what gave me a sick feeling in my stomach when I really started thinking about it.
You guys seem pretty well off, but 80 bucks will pay my electric bill for 2 months!

This was an impulse, events kind'a took over purchase. I went to the show to buy new military goodies, not old stuff !

I know how you feel clueless. I would stay away from SS stuff becacuse it is so reproduced. If you start collecting LW or Heer stuff first, you can get a basic understanding of how German cloth should look and feel, then you can graduate to SS with the aid of this forum and other sources to aid you along.

A very interesting thread, Clueless if anyone here can say they have never been burned "at least" once they are either "clueless" or lying through their teeth . Truth of the matter is that most I think find humor in your situation since it reminds them of a time they were burned once, twice, etc. etc.
Your in the right place to help you become more educated and get some help by only asking. Don't be to hard on your self .

Hello!! Don't feel too bad about it. We all have had purchases we wish we didn't. I was part of the Konkin scam, now that one hurt!! It is all part of the learning process. I have been out of WW2 German for almost 20 years and just got back in. Boy, talk about trying to catch up!! Start by investing in some really good books on WW2 German items. That will save you from junk like this. Collecting is learning as you go and this forum is a great way to start. I have come to learn how great these guys are. I know $80 is a lot to lose on anything, but make it a lesson to be learned and it may save you the hundreds or thousands in losses next time. Keep collecting and stay active with the forum. I totally agree with the above threads. I paid 532€ for a fake visorcap when I first started up. I sure learnt my lesson. As mentioned before get books so you can form your own opinion then always display the stuff you´re going to buy in this forum, that way you learn from very skilled collectors.

So many people are out there burying reproduction junk, only to dig it up a year later and sell it as "recent dug find". I have been looking for an original vehicle identification banner, and there are so many repro's being sold as original, I gave up looking.

I remember when I was 13, I purchased what I thought was a German helmet at a flea market. It was to be my first German helmet and I was very excited. The fact that it cost me all of my savings (about $125) didn't faze me at all. Well, when I got home, my parents thought I was an idiot for spending all my savings on a German helmet. When it turned out that the helmet was a Spanish civil war helmet and not German WWII, they could do nothing more than roll their eyes and laugh a little.

I remember the next day, my parents went to have lunch and I stayed home. I pulled out my Dad's M-1 carbine and shot that stupid helmet full of holes. It may not have helped the value of the helmet, but it certainly made me feel much better!

I met this guy at a PA gunshow as well. He was quite a showman. Looked at an EK2 with a high price and he quickly came over to tell me he had accidently put that price on and the actual price was much higher because it was rare. What an idiot. My general rule is that a piece should sell itself and no story is needed. Take heed and stay away from him. Sorry you got burnt. Happens to the best of them. Stick around and these guys will take care of you.
