Cut insignia still attached to uniforms..

Great thread...want to revive it...here are a few recent purchases...

This is a very good thread-it really does a lot to illustrate what military collecting is about-a lot of this stuff came off dead bodies-a time honored tradition among warriors. Frowned on today by the PC crowd. Still better than scalps or ears.
Some of it came from POWs or even scrap heaps-but all represent trophies from defeated enemies.
My Grandmother told me about making a hooked rug from a german jacket my dad brought home. Tossed the insignia.
He had a leather flight jacket but wore it out.
Great stuff! Keep it coming.

A very good thread, just beware because as with all things cool the fakers are here as well. In the Sacramento area of CA is a guy who is actively making these.

Gary you are certainly correct. The fakers are on to these items as well. Years ago I used to see bad SS cufftitles sewn to fabric. I am sure any insignia can now be suspect. Some are safer than others though...like collar tabs, FJ smock eagles, etc.

Nice finds John!

Here are my SOS finds that are still attached. Also found some others that had been removed, but no longer sewn to anything.

Hermann Meyer cap insignia, Luftwaffe tropical shirt eagle and early FJ smock eagle........all closely trimmed. Thought the collar tab was pretty unique.

and on that collar tab it looks like suckers
