Why is our collecting interest a "fasination"? What's yours? Have I asked you to justify it?...............Re: Jos' just-a-question, it would likely be the higher demand for worn items as opposed to tailor shop surplus.

Never thought I would see the front of an overseas cap cut off in manner such as this, but here is one.

        Willi,

I too succumbed to some of Bill's pieces. I bought the Ogfr flight cut pair. About 4 times the normal cost but boy do they have character, and the value is what you want to pay for it. I am very happy with my cut pieces. I'll try to post pics.

        Regards

        Mark

These items are woth more, and are more fascinating for some, because many people like to collect war items, that were actually used in a war; as opposed to war items that never were used in a war, and that some (like me) consider hardly more valuable historicaly and sentimentaly then a copy.
The fascination comes from knowing these objets were used by desperate men in difficult times, and not by knowing that the object had the exciting existance of sitting in a stockpile untill the end of the war.
I fully undeerstand that other collectors dont collect in the same way, but deep down, we dont really collect the same things.

Thanks Jean-Loup. I agree..........Willi - Here's a similar piece that was on a British dealer's website last year. I believe he wanted $50-55 US. I have the complete cap, so I didn't snap it up, and it sold after more than 6 months.

Mark, I only got 1 item from Bill's batch. I find this stuff at small local shows, so I seldom pay that kind of money. Cool piece Badbob, I too have several complete caps, but I just like insignia cut in this manner (and found it for $45). I agree with JL, I find the cut stuff interesting. In most cases, it was borught back by combat veterans who couldn't carry the entire item around, so they cut off the insignia. I guess rear area troops also did the same, and some of them might have been postwar cut too. Most do seem to be hacked by items such as fighting knives or bayonets, based on the cut patterns and lack of super sharp blades. And honestly, with the future of this hobby and repros, alot of people place trust in items such as this. Have also encountered some bad items too......usually in the manner of a repro SS cufftitle sewn to a piece of original greatocat, in an effort to add some authenticity. So, they are not fool proof.

                  Here's mine

                  Hi Guys,
I like your stuff. I wish I had more cut insignia myself. I agree that it's really interesting because it was "there". I like mint pieces too, but prefer pieces that were used but still in good condition. Here's my insignia cut from a Luftwaffe cap.

Love it! Keep it coming. Is the eagle bottom right very heavily worn?
