Thanks Gene--is this something that is germane to Luftwaffe tabs? I blacklighted (blacklit?) every SA officer's tunic that I have and every kepi and none of the collar or tab piping or tresse had a glowing core.
This is curious!

I can't say that bullion reacting to a blacklight is specific to Luftwaffe insignia but simply that I know it does. I've had loose Panzer Lt. boards that glowed an eerie blue under a blacklight and they were a flea market find in Trier, Germany.
This may or may not help you, but it may be worth mentioning...
Several years ago I purchased a summer weight Luftwaffe tunic from the vet, Oberst for Flak and private tailored. Nothing on the tunic glowed, bullion included. The tunic had never been laundered post-war I must add..
As far as I can see out of the pictures the collar cord is too thin and have been twisted the wrong way. The collar tab has the right "twist". The same directions should apply to the collar cord. Post war W-german and DDR cords on on hats etc had the wrong "twist" as on the cord on the above tunic.
Thanks! That's good to know. I'm pretty sure the tabs are bad, or at least the piping of the tabs is. The rest of the piece looks fine.
Thanks for the input!
Erich
