    Small Shoulder Boards

I have the opportunity to purchase a pair of heer NCO shoulder boards for art. reg. 277, the thing is they are a very oddly small size. I have never seen shoulderboards smaller than the standard feldbluse size. they are offered as possibly being "shirt sized." has anyone ever seen or heard of this or should i pass. did a search on the WAF but found nothing, if i had pictures I would post them but sadly I do not.
    Cheers!

    Hello
How small are we talking ? they could have been made for a small tunic .
I once owned a huge shoulder board which was a lot longer than the normal greatcoat size !!! must have been for a giant.

If I were to guess I would say somewhere around 2/3 the normal size give or take

        Hello
Do you have pictures you can send to someone ? Need to know if they are even real one to start with.
My guess , if they are real , would be , like I mentioned , made for a small sized tunic.

I have seen quite a few small size boards. I have a set of Luft HG boards that are pretty small. I have to agree that its the size of the person that matters. I know of a very nice generals tunic that has tiny boards by most standards...the guy was pretty small and the booards were tailored accordingly. Standard size boards on some peoples tiny shoulders would look very odd. Shirt boards are often lighter weight materials, etc.

I have heard one theory that the small shoulder boards were done up for the large collared overcoats but I don't think I have seen any photographic evidence to support the theory. In fact, it seems that all of the small shoulder boards that I have seen were early styled ones which wouldn't make sense since the large collared overcoats showed up later.

Here is a photo showing a variety of sizes of varying widths and lengths. I'm sure most shoulder board collectors have tons of various sizes. I'm not a board collector but just had some on tunics and a few loose pairs.

                    Boards

They came in different sizes and were issued or tailored to fit the soldier. You also will see boards made or real boards modified for Childrens uniforms complete with Daddy's unit numbers etc. I actually have seen a kids panzer wrapper uniform with 3 Rgt boards for about a 8 year old. Without seeing the boards in question it is hard to know.

Shoulder boards/straps were constructed based on the size of the jacket. The smaller the jacket, the smaller the shoulder boards/straps.

I too was also going to suggest they were a child's uniform shoulderboards. They also made child size helmets, not made of the same materials as regular helmets but they did exist.
