What is the button for on the middle of the inside back?

I have two of these coats and neither has this feature, but I imagine that if the hood on this example had had a fastening tab, this button could have been used to keep the hood from shifting or getting bunched up when worn tucked inside the coat. A look at the hood should reveal the answer, I think.
