Tunic for Officer with Don Cossack

Hi Folks,

I just picked this up tunic off E stand and am posting it for comment.I inspected it pretty closely and I don't see any red flags. Its a nice privately tailored piece.Of course what makes it exciting is the patch for Don Cossack Regiment 1 or 5.Heres a front view.Any comments are welcome.WR Jim

Shoulder boards

Collar tabs. The waffenfarbe yellow is not as "warm" as that on the boards. The tabs are machine sewn around 3/4 of the tabs then hand sewn.

The breast eagle.Its zig zag stitched to a field grey base then hand sewn to the tunic.

Details of the loops. Obvious additional loops were added during the officers service.

The last pattern of the Don Cossack patch for members of 1 or 5 Regiment. Its well set into the tunic.Of course some dealers use the same technique on humped up tunics.

I compared the threads of the Arm shield to the eagles because they both are stitched in a similar manner and visually look close in color.The threads are different in color and twist.

I liked it and was seriously tempted by it. Nice looking piece, should compliment your collection. Jacques

Heres an inside shot.The tunic is fully lined including the arms.That means that in order to sew the sleeve shield with a sewing machine, you need to open up the liner. While I was unable to capture it with a picture the white thread on the lining for arms is different. I believe the lining at the arm was undone and then the patch was sewn on.Then the lining was restitched.Its just such a good job you can't really see it. If someone wanted to hump up the tunic it would have been easier to hand stich the shield which is a perfectly acceptable method.

Underside of the collar. You can clearly see that the tabs were sewn by a combination of machine and hand stitching. There is no evidence of other tabs being sewn.I'm still trying to figure out why the holes exist, as well as the black threads shown by the arrows.The backing cloth is a linen or smooth cotton. theres also extra black thread at the rear of the collar.

Thank you Jacques.The patch and tunic are definately original IMHO.My only concern was -is the patch original to the tunic. I didn't find anything that would make me believe otherwise. It was also fairly priced ,so I couldn't loose as long as the two major components (tunic and patch) were original.WR Jim
