    LW Winter uniform colours?

    Hi all,

I've seen references to the reversable LW winter parka as white one side and grey, blue, and green on the other.

Any help on which colours were issued, blue, grey, green and if more than one, when issued?

Were all LW specific winter uniforms of the quilited type?

    Thanks, Jeff

    Jeff,

I have a set of pants, coat with hood and a separate hood - they are reversible to white, and are not quilted. Really thick and heavy. Originally the outside must have been blue, but due to wash and wear the outside has turned kinda purple (some of the blue is stil visible on the white side from washing the garments).

I have seen grey ones, but not green ones (at least not for LW).

    Hopes this helps a bit.
    Frank.

      Hi Frank,

it does help. I've searched through a number of refence books and found no specific colour explanations. Waiting on Angolia LW vol. 2 to see what it says.

            Hi Gran Sasso,

thanks for the photo. Is the colour grey, blue, or green (seems like grey on my monitor)?

In doing a search through our various threads, I have seen references to blue, grey, and green reversible to white parkas and in plain and quilted (small diamond and square quilted patterns) cloth.

Just trying to nail down my knowledge on LW winter parkas.

            Thanks, Jeff

The first one (complete set) I would call "steel-blue", with a light-green button-row. The second one is grey.

                  Jeff,

this is the type I have - all in this purplish colour that the left front half is. I think this was the more common one used in the winter 40/41.

                  Frank.

The ones with the dividers were the first models to be produced. For example mine is dated (19)42. The first time those suits made it to the front was autum 1943.

So the following model, the plain suit, should have reached the front not before winter 43/44.

                      Patrick,

which ones were worn then in the early years? Winter of 39/40 and the next?

                      Thanks,
                      Frank.
