I agree, blind chimps were used in many frontline wartime tailor shops. This is evident in many period photos. I just think this tunic, with all the visible clues was more likely sewn on recently by a post war blind chimp living somewhere in Europe.

I have issue tunics that have been opened up to facilitate sewing boards in but they have always been resewn shut. Tunics I have seen stripped usually look like this. I am infering that also by looking at how poorly the boards are attached. I also see some threads around the present boards that is a different color than the thread used to sew in the current boards. LW tunics often have the boards sewn down like this but with more than 4 threads. I guess you could argue it was opened when he was promoted to Major but I think in this case it is obvious what is going on. Sloppy refitting of insignia sewn on by a blind chimpanzee.
Yes I agree. I think the tunic was found without insignias and put together with cheap artillery officer insignias very easy to find. This tunic must to come with artillery assault collar patches, hard to find originals, and em or NCO shouder boards.
He made a bad work sewing the insignias on the tunic. I donĀ“t know if he was a chipanzee but sure he was not a taylor.
These tunic cannot wear during combat. The owner loose the shouder boards in first fight day.

It still could be restored to a very very nice tunic if you want to do it. The body is there it just needs proper insignia and TLC.

These collar tabs could be nice to start the restoration. What do you think?

            Tabs

Those are the right type for one option. With those you can use the boards you already have.

A good start for a nice restoration the best on this late war model.
What kind of eagle you are going to put on?

Just use the officer's insignia that is on the garment currently and anchor the shoulder board in a more "acceptable/proper" fashion. You need do nothing else.

Wartime modification. Was shortened from 4 to 3 buttons, common practice in most of em wraps used buy officers or Nco. Is not easy to find four buttons wraps

                            Insignia

I did not see the tabs before, they are very nice! As Mr. Singer noted the eagle and the tabs are perfect for this. Just fix the boards and sew them in correctly, close the lining and you will have a super nice example with a field modification to boot. Post it when you are done. Those are always nice to look at.
