Did LW-pilots use the summertunic in the airplane ?

    Hi.

I have got this very salty Oberleutnant summertunic.
It is very dirty. On the arm and other places there are stains from oil and grease. In front the white colour has turned a bit yellow/gray by dirt.

So I wonder if these white sommertunics was ever used in the airplane by the pilots ?

    Thanks
    Derek

          Tunic

There are photos of officers flying in white tunics, this was Herman Meyer and the other big wigs. I imagine that was a rare event and I do not believe they were wearing these on operational flights.

White tunics get dirty easily, this could have been played with by kids, stored in a barn, in a greasy box, who knows? I would suspect it is from post war disuse rather than wartime use.

I agree. That's what flight suits were designed for...

The color of the summer tunic isn't the reason: think about the rarest Luftwaffe jacket: the white channel jacket seen among others on Walter Oesau.
