    Named M43 with story

I have recently added a WH uniform to my collection and I want enjoy with you. Not the tunic I prefer but surely untouched, authentic and full of story, not easy nowaday obtain a rare bird like this.
This tunic comes from Barry Smith collection, was taken away in Reims - France by a US veteran who confiscated the uniform with all of the badges showed (only the shoulder boards were torn off) brought it home as a souvenir after the war.
When was bought it only had the iron Cross 1st. Class and the wound badge in black mounted on it, infantry badge was added later. On the reverse side of the EK1 the rank, name and place of birth were “scratched” by the owner.
Barry Smith obtained the tunic in 1993 and started all the searches trying to find the soldier, unfortunatly died in 1992.
His name was Wilhelm Eichmann, a oberfeldwebel of the 7th company/Infantry Regiment 529. This unit was part of the 299th infantry division.
I have all the letters between Mr Smith and his family, copy of solbuch, wartime pictures, decorations papers and more.
The tunic look used but near mint conditions the officer eagle is stitched (war time) up the original one.
I am proud of this tunic, not the high point of my collection but I am happy that the life of a soldier will be documented for the future.
I am glad to give any info and pictures on request
    Luca

                      Hi Luca

I love atributed tunics. It is so rare to find atributed EM combat tunics. The NCO look like changed the eagle to a nice "parade" style eagle. I would love to have it in my collection. In my case it would be the crownd jewel of my combat tunic collection as knowing Who was the soldier make the tunic priceless.

                      Bravo

Could you post close ups of some of the pictures, for example where the man is wearing the same decorations; or maybe even one where he is wearing the exact same tunic? This thread could have the potential to be put in the virtual museum.

Hi gents, in this photo I can clearly see the wound badge seems the same, sorry but I have not a scan to show you better close ups.
About these decorations the daughter wrote:

"The Iron Cross 1st class was awarded on the 27th of June 42 and it had saved my father's life at that time. By an engagement on the 23rd of Jule. 42 he was severly wounded by grenade fragment at the head region; another fragment ricochted upon the Iron Cross 1st. class; otherwise it would have directly penetrated his heart. My father received probably at that time a new cross because in photos made of him later, The EK1 appears to be undamaged. The completely damaged "original" and also the EK2 are in our possession. On the 3rd. October 42 he was awarded the Wound Badge in Black..... On 13th. of September 44 he was taken into American captivity in Bitburg in the Eifel and was brought to a POW compound in Reims in France. There his uniform with all official decorations was taken away....."

                            Thanks all for kind comments
