My gold bullion addiction tends to make me jump first & think later so this may sound a bit goofy but just how rare are these? Obviously, I saw the silver ones posted here by other members. I think they were a bit smaller than this bird.

I would love to find a silver one to go with this one. How tough are these to locate and what migt a nice example set me back?

I don't care what anybody says, you just don't see tight embroidery done with the quality that the Germans did back in the day. Nobody did it better. Many now come close, but they just don't get it as perfect.

To sort of answer your question about rarity; they are very rare (I know; a brilliant statement of the obvious there!). I chased bullion eagles of all types for many, many years and never found a Luft. general's for sale that I liked. I saw several officer eagles and owned a couple and those were hard enough to find. Both the silver and gold versions should be the same size.

This is a very nice eagle (still on a bit of cape cloth) at what I consider to be a reasonable price. Would look great with your gold bird!

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find that gold bird? It was my white whale for many years!

That's too funny. First thing I thought of was "that's what nine inches looks like"! - I guess size does matter.

Wondering though if anyone knows - why the difference in size between the silver bullion ones & this one? Seem to recall the one I saw posted here was 7+ inches across whereas this is 9... any thoughts?

I thought the silver and gold were the same size, a friend of mine has a pair, I think I have a photo of them side by side and will check.
