    Heer Oberfeldwebel boards, opinions please...

    Hi all,

I just picked up these boards, and after seeing our data base file I felt pretty confident that they were original. But I still wanted to show them off a bit and see what others had to say about them...

I see a little corrosion on one of the pips. One set of pips has soft prongs, the longer prongs are stiff like steel. Are one set aluminum, and the other zinc? The corrosion is on the stiff-pronged pip. Did aluminum come in early war, and zinc midwar?

That's good to hear. Thank you for your reply. This cloth is all basically new to me, and it's good to hear that I made good choices in buying. They just looked old.

All of you guys are great confidence builders. Now, if one of you could tell me where to find a couple of worn 19 or 20mm buttons to display them with without paying 20 EURO for shipping from Germany, I'd be tickled pink. Amuminum, zinc, steel, I don't care. Maybe we could work a trade for a bevo weave breast eagle, or something.

                      Hello,
nice shoulderstraps, looks like they were sew in straps modified to be worn on the Feldbluse

I can see where they are sewn together with tan thread. This is not normal for boards?

Were the earlier M36's sewn in, where the later M43's and so forth, had straps where the boards slipped through and buttoned. I can then see the evolution of this soldier keeping his early boards from his early tunic and having them fitted to a newer tunic. Is this correct thinking?

Nice, "been-there" boards. BTW, my favorite rank (because best-looking)
