M43 Pants with a Religious Surprise

    Hi all
These are my M43 pants. They were found about 15 years ago if im not wrong in the famous Prato cloth recycling factory in the Tuscany region(my italian freinds know what im talkin about).
The pants have the common modify at the anckles that have been seen in many period Pants.
In the front Little pocket this little S.Anthony was found meaning that the soldier who wore these pants was a religious man and for throwing the pants it means he s been "blessed" and he made it to come home...thanks to S.Anthony?
A curious thing is that the little S.Anthony has the writing at the back GERMANY in english....any guess?

The figure would say "GERMANY" in English if it were designed for export, correct?

Due to laws passed in the US in the 1890s, all foreign-produced goods imported into the US had to be marked with the country of origin. However, a practical-minded overseas manufacturer could possibly elect to place country of origin marks on products meant for both domestic and export markets and thus save the expense of additional tooling costs. That could be the case here.

        Just a thought.

            Hi, Lelez!
Nice and original M43 wartime trousers. As stated by you they carried one of the more common 'trasformation' ever seen on this kind of stuff. The 43s leave the factory with a strap made in the same woll of the trousers with two strings that could be tight on two little sewned holes on the other side of the leg. That was for keep the trousers down, because the straps runs under the foot. In many 43s the straps are permanentely sewn, as your pair. This kind of modification was quite common, because its not difficult to found on this model of pants. Its clear that the modification on your trousers is there from the WWII.

About the writing 'germany', could be owned to the war periods, also if english words. Many words are still in english even in the 3rd reich time. I remember to have seen write 'copyright' in many WWII made books, for example...

            Hope this help.

            Cheers, Frank

A nice pair, good thing you were there to rescue them but if you wouldn't mind clarifying for me, what do you mean by "throwing the pants = blessed" ? (away, as in discarding them?)

                  Will,
as in he made it home from the war to be able to throw them away later and maybe he s been "blessed" by that little S.Anthony in his pocket that protected the soldier

Thanks Lelez, must have been tired last night as I read your post again tonight and your meaning comes through clearly. Very nice pants, I have an unissured pair just like them.
