      Steve,
I was thinking the same thing. Great construction on those tabs. absolutely brilliant. Never have been a big fan of the luft 4 pocket, but this is one I would love to own! I can see why you kept it.

Nice touch!
I have a Lieutenant's tunic also with bat wing pocket flaps! Great to see another example like that!! Thanks for showing! Nick

Good observation. I once owned a 36 dated Oberlt tunic with the scalloped pocket flaps. I have always felt and seen in period photos that these scallops were used on the earliest Luftwaffe 4 pockets. The drop tail eagle and the silver (not aluminium) tress on this example would also support a very early tunic.

Also, I see that the shoulder straps are narrower than issue straps. This was common for senior NCOs to give their tunics a quasi officer look. Nice touch.

Here's a thread on mine, also with the scalloped pocket flaps being discussed (among other things)

                Hi Albert,
Allow me to add to the chorus of cheers! Wonderful tunic!
In my opinion, he was NOT demoted, but rather premoted! The hole in the middle of the strap would have been when he had just a single pip. It seems particular for Luftwaffe, that they put their pip in the center of the shoulderstrap. I have an issue NCO Regiment General Goring tunic where the pip is in the middle. Naturally, with the advance in rank, he would remove the middle pip, and move it back, and place one more further up.
                Thank you for sharing,
                Curtiss

                      Gents,

Ten years after this posting, I'd like to mention that this tunic will be going to the SOS in two weeks. Just want to give WAF members a heads up first since for logistical reasons I won't be able to post it on the e-stand before SOS.

Even though this thread is in the Heer section now;-)

                      Best,
                      Al

                        Albert,

Thanks for bringing this to the top again. It will certainly make a stellar addition to any general LW collector or OR/NCO specialist. A wonderful uniform!

Is there a tailor label and/or tailor name tag intact?

                        J-
