Pants: Please Help Identify

Hi Everyone:

Not being a cloth guy, I have no idea what these are. They came with a vet grouping I picked up some time ago. I'll say this, the guy was tough on his buttons...many look period replaced. They are made from wool.

Any help identifying these would be greatly appreciated.

Trousers

These are WWII Army German service/field trousers dated 1940.

looks like a real nice pair of combat trousers with a few replaced buttons

isn't the back belt tab a bit short? fot it to be done up would mean a pucker in the back

Looks like it has been shortened, not too uncommon to see. It is the only way to tighten these type of pants if weight is lost etc.

First and foremost thanks to everyone for helping ID these pants for me. I really appreciate your help and time.
