I believe I have asked this before but asking again. What are the 2 slots on either side of the greatcoat for also there are 2 leather re-enfocements sewn into the back at the same level. I was told once that these were to allow the belt hooks to protrude through. The 2 in the rear are not cut through. I can see that they may line up with belt hooks but the 2 on the sides would not line up with the belt hooks in the front.

It has been suggested that you opened up the 2 rear slits, then inserted the end of the service belt through the side slit, then out the back slit, then back in the other back slit, then back out the other side slit, so it could be worn as walking out dress greatcoat when just belt and buckle was worn. Does sound plausable but I haven't seen any pics to verify it
