    This is Paulj's PM

"Paul,You asked me to PM you.I did not really want to bother as to be honest after the comment you made it was not really worth it.Your knowledge on this matter is poor, look at the last bit of rubbish you Looked at on Fallen eagle you posted and now this .
Yet you want to cast doubt on my opinion.I have been collecting ost-truppen stuff for 15 years now,I have a lot,it is all good-must be me being pompous is it?You value opinions from clowns-Ostfries,Armenische leg,Nick.G etc.NONE of these guys have original ost truppen uniforms-or probably ever will. They have no idea. Gaspare is the only one whose opinion counts (sorry Bob Hritz, it appears even you are not worthy). There are very few pieces around that are good, the ones that I would trust are a handfull, some locations known others not.
You make some sort of comment in regards to military service and mods,I'm still in after 20 years in 3 armies and I mod gear all the time.Has no relevance to hard and fast rules with ost truppen unifroms. That being printed ROA shields were not worn.Bevo tabs rarely worn, put the 2 together equals a fake.Show me a pic of an ROA soldier wearing a printed shield and I will be amazed.
I love the comment it's a "sleeper" and your gut instinct- looking at your last find I can see your gut is a great indicator. It had a 50/50 chance of being good?It has a zero chance of being good. The collar tabs are not even correct,do some more research. These tabs are auxilary troops eg-schuma/police.
You may find me harsh but I do tend to have a low tolerance of fools but I have an even lower tolerance of people that try to rip others off. If I post on the forum I only do it to try to save people their money from con artists not from some need to bolster my ego or the need to belong like so many who are lacking something outside the forum.
All that being said,I have contacted the seller of the Dutch tunic to see if he is happy for you to e-mail him.He is fine with that.I have pics he sent me which I can forward onto you if you give me your e-mail address. It is unusual in that it has m43 pockets on the lower edge something I have not seen before".
    .

Makes you wonder where he would need help from a clown for then, good to know that the most knowledgeable Ost/foreign volunteer tunic expert is situated in the “Australian Outback” gathering knowledge and watching over us throughout his 17inch computer screen.

If it's any help, I'm the person Paul is referring to, as I own the tunic!

Hello Jim, the lower pockets shown on the period picture you provided are actually M40 type pockets instead of M43 pockets, you are right M43 lower pockets on reissued Dutch tunics are not uncommon, friend of mine got two reissued Dutch tunics with M43 style lower pockets.

always thought it was the case for all of them, i mean when period applied
concerning the pockets, the one posted by Jim is the original M33 pocket.
I've seen M42 pockets as well
The Dutch Feldblusen with M43 pockets are the latest reissued i guess

                “oval” shaped pockets,

Would be M33 pockets if they where more square shaped, the pockets on the picture provided by Jim are more “oval” shaped, typical for the M40 type pocket.

Correct. Basically M36-M40/41 pleated with scalloped flap, M41/42 unpleated with scalloped flap and M43 unpleated with straight flap. But the point is that period pics show volunteers wearing a tunic similar in style to the one that started the thread. WR Jim

                    Dutch tunic

                    Paul,
Good to see you can keep a PM exactly that, especially when you asked me to do so.I make no apologies for comments made,I'll call a spade a spade.
Seeing as your memory is lacking and you had to post a little quizical confused picture here is your last "gem" you found
                    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ighlight=pskov
I could not be bothered with trying to steer people clear of fakes like these anymore, ask Ostfries-he'll give you some real sound advice.
If you still want the pics let me know if it saves James forwarding on more, send me a PM or a Par Monde as it must be known by now,
                    Cheers,
                    Paul.

you either like it or you don't,,lets not get crazy..These things aren't every collectors cup of tea,,you gotta really be a believer with most of the pieces.

Tell you one thing.. Moscow and/or Ukraine film,,,if you have a jacket with their stamps in it 90% the insignia has been replaced already a few times over before it left the studio..

                        clown?

Yet you want to cast doubt on my opinion.I have been collecting ost-truppen stuff for 15 years now,I have a lot,it is all good-must be me being pompous is it?You value opinions from clowns-Ostfries,Armenische leg,Nick.G etc.NONE of these guys have original ost truppen uniforms-or probably ever will. They have no idea. (PaulJ)========================================
I don't appreciate being called a clown, especially behind my back Paul.J.... I own an extensive library, pretty much all "Bender" and "Angolia books" that are relevant to this topic. Here's my definition on "original Ost truppen uniforms" (I own 3 Dutch conversions). If the tunic is Dutch in origin and converted by the Germans and has Russian stamps (either museum or theatre property markings) it was obviously left behind in Russia. Therefor likelyhood that it was issued to an osttruppen unit is extremely high, so by that definition its an "original ost truppen" uniform in my book, regardless if it has insignia on it (original or post applied) or not (stripped).
BUT prooving it's an untouched original one or not, that is the question... and some collectors with less deeper pockets might be totally comfortable with restoring these back to their former glory.
Of course I realize Paul that not only Ostruppen were issued such tunics, also 2nd-3rd echelon rear guard German troops used these on occasion. Also Dutch tunics, because they were better in quality, were popular and used by regular German troops as "ausgehe" uniforms (dress uniform)... but if its a used and abused piece, has Russian (capture or property) stamps in it, that makes it in my book an "ost truppen" uniform, so I've handled plenty to distinguish these from regular (German pattern) uniforms. Note that all Osttruppen that were not already captured in Russia were forcefully returned to Russia, so that explains the stamps on the tunic that started this thread...it came from Russia and the probability that it was Osttruppen used is therefor extremely good. Also period photographic evidence prooves that 9 out of 10 times this pattern of (converted) uniform was Ost truppen used (really almost exclusively) so in my book these can be called "original Ost truppen uniforms" (restored or untouched). The asking price is the difference between the two ! I also realize that some people might frown an eybrow when seeing printed ROA shields and BeVo "Ost" collar tabs applied, (like Ostfries' example), but lets not forget this is a hobby and as long as people are pleased with the result of their restoration (and not trying to sell these as undisturbed pieces, hey why not?
I'll end my rant with sharing a picture of an Officer's (Dutch)German Ost truppen uniform. I am happy with it!
                        Nick

                              osttruppen (Ukraine?) shoulderboard insignia

Same type shoulderboard insignia turned up here!!! Design appears hand-embroidered though...

                                Hello all,
I was trawling through old threads and I came across this ancient ,and fractious, subject. The insignia on the straps made me think of this photo in my collection. I think it is the same symbol, but what that is is anyone's guess, artillery perhaps.
                                Cheers,
                                Kerry.
