the tabs them self look ok but the age of the thread doesnt match the age of the tabs and usually the extra badge cloth material is tucked under the backing and then tacked on to backing badge cloth looks a little strange/thin IMO i dont like them it doesnt look like the extra material has been trimed off because the threads look tight to the back it looks like they were made that way and the backing material looks new

        Collar Tabs

        Greetings,

I believe these tabs are good. I am sure that they are Period assembled. The tab itself is original I just do not care for this type of assembly. A friend of mine got a large lot of this type of collar tab. There were early colored tabs, Dark green on grey and field grey on grey tabs all assembled on a badge cloth on buckram. No excess material folded over. My thought is that they are incomplete specialist tabs of the enlisted grades that were unfinished with a edge piping. Just my thoughts.

          A text Book Example . . .

. . . of the pattern used for a short time before the backing was eliminated entirely. I would date these from 1939-41.

          These are a nice find.

I have examples of the gray / green litzen and solid gray litzen in my collection.

It is possible that these were also mounted on field gray cloth when the color of the tunic collar was changed in 1940.

By 1941 the backing was eliminated entirely, saving labor and materials to further the war effort.
